Barceloneta beach
Barceloneta is busy with beachgoers in the sunny months. The district is iconic for its harbor and views of the city and coastline. Barceloneta beach is (outside the winter months) not the perfect beach to spend a relaxed day undisturbed. Rather go to the beaches at Poblenou. Barceloneta playa is the territory of the striking nude runners, ‘Paki’s’ (as they are called here) with bad (read: don’t) mojitos and cerveza for a euro and the sales tigers with a massage on offer. The bathers themselves come in every form, of course. Here you lie down for beach scenes, but not for your rest.
El Barrio
Don’t forget to explore the neighborhood yourself and enjoy the beautiful streets. The district originated in the 18th century. In the past, mainly fishermen and dock workers lived here. Due to the rapid growth of the port, many small apartments were built in a short time at the end of the 19th century. These are those cheerfully decorated houses with French balconies that give the neighborhood character. The neighborhood therefore tries to keep the district characteristic with heart and soul, which is no easy task due to its unique location by the sea. Hotels and tourist rentals are therefore prevented as much as possible by the local residents. Catalans like to make themselves heard, the banners on balconies speak for themselves. The neighborhood is certainly losing more and more authenticity, but it is still (especially in the quiet winter months) beautiful.
Good food
On the beach itself we find the chiringuitos. These are the beach bars that are quite different from each other in terms of service, quality and price. They do look more and more attractive. A little further away from the beach, along the boulevard increasingly hip surf clubs with tasty meals are also emerging. You can have a more stylish lunch or dinner around and in the W hotel, but the price/quality ratio at these types of locations is obviously not optimal. For good food, instead of the beach, dive into the streets of Barceloneta. Bar Jai-Ca or Bodega La Peninsular are true classics with ditto furnishings. After eating continue your way to the magical Absenta bar, for a time machine adventure.
